Between Darkness and Light: A Poetic Memoir of Bipolar Disorder

I have a close friend who's quite a trip,
He's got bipolar disorder, which make him quite hip,
He's up and he's down, but that's just his forté,
It makes life interesting, just like it ought, eh?

When he's manic, he's on top of the world,
He'll stay up all night, his energy unfurled,
He'll talk a mile a minute, with grandiosity planned,
He's the life of the party, the king of all land.

He can soar like an eagle, not ever does he tire,
With boundless energy that seems never to expire,
As he aims for the stars, his drive is unfazed,
In his tireless pursuit, he’s indefatigably crazed.

But then there are times when he's feeling quite low,
He'll retreat to his bed, and let the tears flow,
It's not always easy, living with this condition,
But he's a fighter, and always returns, a newer edition.

Some people think he's crazy, and they might be right,
But he still keeps living life with all of his might,
He’s not on his meds, his therapist’s in a stew,
He knows that's not what he’s supposed to do.

He keeps a close eye on his moods day by day,
Always aware when he's up, or in a low way,
He thinks he's it’s master when he's feeling high,
But when he's down, it's not good, that he can't deny.

So here's to my friend, and all those with bipolar too,
You're never alone, we're all here for you,
Keep on fighting, it’s really worthwhile,
You are enigmas for sure but you make us all smile.
