TEA WITH THE MASTER · SENSEI KAGEMORI

A fictional parable by Peter Pickering.

Grasshopper (panting)

Sensei! I sprinted across the square, elbowed two tourists, and shot from the hip! I nailed it — 600 frames, just today!

Sensei (raising one eyebrow)

Did you see anything, or only shoot everything?

Grasshopper (proudly)

I caught moments on the fly, mid-motion! True candid street!

Sensei (sighing)

A moment caught is not a moment understood.

You chased shadows, not stories. You hunted pixels, not presence.
Running and gunning is for soldiers, Grasshopper. Are you at war with the street?

Grasshopper (sheepishly)

But the energy, the rawness—

Sensei

Energy without awareness is chaos.
A photographer walks with the world, not past it.
He waits. He breathes. He listens.
Not every frame must be claimed like a trophy.

Moral of the Scroll:
He who sprints sees shapes. He who lingers sees souls.

Come now, Grasshopper. Return your shutter to silence. Let the street speak first.
